Renewable Energy Ministry gets 20% hike in Budget

With the government working on several ambitious clean energy programmes, the Budget for the New and Renewable Energy Ministry was today hiked by more than 20% to Rs 1,212 crore this year.

The total allocation for ministry last year was Rs 1,008.50 crore.

In the Budget presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today, the government has allocated Rs 664 crore for grid-interactive and distributed renewable power.

A sum of Rs 176 crore has been allocated for developing renewable energy for rural applications this year.

The government has been focusing on developing renewable energy sources in the country and has also started the National Solar Mission last year, under which it plans to generate 20,000 Mw power by 2022.

 

Rs 77.50 crore have also been sanctioned to the Ministry for research, design and development in the renewable energy sector.

For developing new energy applications for the urban and industrial usage, Rs 10 crore have been sanctioned.
