The government today said the reserve price of 3G spectrum and its allocation as well as amount to be auctioned are under its examination.

While replying to a query to a written question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Communication and IT Gurudas Kamat said guidelines for the auction of 3G spectrum were issued on August 1, 2008 and were later amended on September same year.

Several issues, including amount of spectrum to be auctioned, fixing of the reserve price for 3G spectrum and its allocations, are under examination of the government, he added.

Kamat said the government expects 600 million telecom connections both wireless and wireline by the end of 2012.

As on April 2009, the total number of mobile connections are about 404 million and with the current pace of addition of about 10 million connections a month, it is expected that a target of 600 million connections shall be achieved by 2012.
