In keeping with Trinamool Congress chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's decision, a resolution would be moved by the Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly on June 28 for reviving the Legislative Council.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Business Advisory committee of the Asssembly convened by Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay, an assembly source said.

After the Trinamool Congress and ally Congress secured a resounding victory in the Assembly elections, Banerjee had disclosed a plan to revive the legislative council. Party insiders said the Trinamool chief was mulling the creation of the Upper House to accommodate civil society members who have been backing her against the former Left Front government since the Singur and Nandigram days. The Council was abolished on 21 March 1969.
