Retail inflation based on consumer price index for agricultural labour increased to 7.99 per cent in December month-on-month due to rise in prices of essential food articles such as onion and milk.
The inflation was 7.14 per cent in November 2010.
Similarly, the inflation based on rural labourers jumped to 8.01 per cent in the last month of 2010 from 6.95 per cent in November, the Ministry of Labour and Employment said.
The rise in index varied from state to state. In case of both agricultural and rural labourers, it recorded an increase between 2-22 points in 19 states and remained stationary in one.
Haryana topped the index, while Himachal Pradesh was at the bottom.
The index registered the maximum increase of 22 points in each series in Gujarat, mainly due to increase in the price of bajra atta, groundnut oil, milk, onion, chillies dry, garlic, fruits, bidi, firewood and barbar charges.
