Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today threatened to expose the “misdeeds” of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda’s family and said he would lay bare their “history” before the people.
The provocation came for Yeddyurappa in the Assembly when JD(S) member and Gowda’s son H D Revanna said the BJP leader had tasted power in the JD(S)-BJP coalition government due to “sheer courtesy” of his brother H D Kumaraswamy. “I will expose the misdeeds of father and sons. I will lay bare your history before the people,” Yeddyurappa, who is being targeted by the JD(S) with a series of corruption charges, said.
“I have documentary proof to prove the corrupt deeds of the father and sons. Here are the documents,” Yeddyurappa said. Taunting the Chief Minister, Revanna said, “Yeddyurappa should have the portrait of H D Kumaraswamy hung in his house for the help rendered to him.” Revanna has indulged in scams to the extent of Rs 35 crore when he was the Chairman of the Karnataka Milk Federation, Yeddyurappa alleged, adding, “Your family got 30 sites allotted in Mysore.” “You can’t utter whatever you want and get away. You do not know how to reciprocate the respect others show,” said a fuming Yeddyurappa.
Making a relentless attack against Yeddyurappa, JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda had recently distributed at the national level booklets containing the alleged land scams involving the Chief Minister. Earlier, responding to Yeddyurappa’s call for decimation of JD(S) from the political map and suggesting a two-party system, Revanna took a swipe, saying it was with the help of a regional party that the BJP came to power in Karnataka and NDA also had regional parties as its allies.
“Why did Yeddyurappa knock at the doors of Kumaraswamy begging for a ministerial berth,” Revanna asked during the outburst. The JD(S) has been claiming repeatedly that at a point in 2005 Yeddyurappa had approached Kumaraswamy even willing to break ranks with the BJP and settle for a minister’s post.
