RI to expand medical support

Rotary International (RI) India will be launching a mega project for cataract patients in collaboration of L B Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad during Rotary International's three day centenary celebration in Kolkata beginning December 3.
 
This project will benefit nearly 1 lakh patients suffering from cataract who will be give free treatment and operation opportunity , said Sushil Gupta, director of RI India, and the entrepreneur behind Hyatt Hotels.
 
In addition to the launch of the 'cataract operation' project, Rotary India would start up a 'toy bank' at Salt Lake in Kolkata.
 
The toy park would make it possible for children to enjoy soft toys from all over the world.
 
Toys would also be taken to children living in the slums by mobile buses.
 
This historic event would see a 'peace run' in the presence of the global Rotary president Glen E Estess. The RI event would have 300 delegates from 14 countries, making it the largest Rotary gathering in India.
 
RI India selected 'Water management and literacy for all by 2015' as the focus area in India, said Gupta, in addition to the existing 'polio eradication' programme. RI expects to completely eradicate polio from the country soon, within another year perhaps", said Gupta.
