The Orissa government has set a rice procurement target of 3.2 million tonnes in the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) of 2010-11.
Out of this, 2.91 million tonnes of rice would be procured by government agencies like Food Corporation of India (FCI), Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation (OSCSC), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED), Marketing Federation (MARKFED) and Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation (TDCC) and miller agents.
This was informed by Sarada Prasad Nayak, minister for food supplies and consumer welfare in the state assembly.
The rice procurement target has been pegged at 1.4 million tonnes for OSCSC, 0.4 million tonnes for NAFED, 0.5 million tonnes for TDCC, 0.4 million tonnes for MARKFED, 0.4 million tonnes for FCI and 0.26 million tonnes for miller agents for the KMS of the current financial year.
The procurement target is the highest for Bargarh district (0.408 million tonnes) followed by Kalahandi (0.32 million tonnes) and Bolangir (0.29 million tonnes).
The rice procurement target has been fixed at 22,500 tonnes for Angul district, 0.13 million tonnes for Balasore, 0.16 million tonnes for Bhadrak, 28,000 tonnes for Boudh, 56,000 tonnes for Cuttack, 17000 tonnes for Deogarh, 39,000 tonnes for Dhenkanal, 25,000 tonnes for Gajapati, 193,000 tonnes for Ganjam, 17000 tonnes for Jagatsinghpur, 47,000 tonnes for Jajpur, 28,000 tonnes for Jharsuguda, 3000 tonnes for Kandhamal, 39000 tonnes for Kendrapara, 50000 tonnes for Keonjhar, 56000 tonnes for Khurda, 84000 tonnes for Koraput, 50000 tonnes for Malkanagiri, 48000 tonnes for Mayurbhanj, 78500 tonnes for Nabarangpur, 45000 tonnes for Nayagarh, 122,000 tonnes for Nuapada, 34,000 tonnes for Puri, 62000 tonnes for Rayagada, 255,000 tonnes for Sambalpur, 150,000 tonnes for Sonepur and 50000 tonnes for Sundargarh.
The paddy procurement has already started in the districts of Sundargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Korpaut, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Bolangir and Bargarh.

The procurement operations will take off later this month in Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, ganjam Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Rayagada.
The paddy procurement will begin in Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts in the first week of January 2011.
