Right to privacy: SC judgment also makes case for regulating data storage

Says dangers to privacy originate not only from state but also email, search, social media services

A nine-judge Bench of the Supreme Court on August 24 held that the Right to Privacy is a fundamental right for all citizens. In their order, the judges also highlighted the need for a regulation to protect the privacy of data, especially in the age of ‘big data’, when state as well as non-state actors have so much information about people.
