Rlys To Transfer Assets To Railtel

The Railways will transfer about Rs 300 crore of assets as part of its equity in the Railtel Corporation soon.

The assets include, optical fibre cables, microwave towers as well as the right to use railway land and premises by the joint venture between the Railways and the telecommunications ministry. The company in turn would pay a lease of Rs 362 crore to the railways annually for the right to use their land, said managing director of the corporation A K Chopra today. Chopra said the railways and Railtel would soon sign a memorandum of understanding to revive the investment in the departmental public sector company, which would apply for an international long-distance licence soon.
