Workers of the Rourkela Steel Plant today threatened to go on an indefinite strike demanding fulfilment of its 16-point charter demands.

"The indefinite strike would start from February 18 if the plant management fail to meet the demands," Rourkela Shramik Sangh (RSS) general secretary M D N Panicker told reporters here.

A strike notice has given to the plant management in accordance with sub section (1) of section 22 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

Panicker said, strike is the last resort of the workers union as repeated request through memorandum has failed to settle their long pending demands.

The demands, includes among others, immediate settlement of NJCS wage agreement, employment to dependent of employees those who die in service, immediate introduction of general insurance scheme for non-executives, revision of incentive scheme of 1991, three years promotion scheme and recruitment of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff in RSP run hospitals, including Ispat General Hospitals.
