The Haryana-based dealers, wholesale as well as retail, having an annual turnover of more than Rs 1 crore, have been asked to file their quarterly and yearly returns through chartered accountants. |
The decision was taken at a meeting of the excise and taxation department here today, which was presided over by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said a senior official of the department. |
According to the official, the department has collected Rs 1,847 crore revenue in the first quarter of the current financial year as against Rs 1,678 crore mopped up during the corresponding period of the last financial year. |
The functioning of the Haryana tax tribunal was also reviewed in the meeting and it was decided that appropriate steps would be taken to make it more efficient. |
The state government has decided to computerise and strengthen the assessing authorities so that assessment and scrutiny of the returns filed by the dealers can be completed in a timebound manner. |
The entire department would be comprehensively computerised to enable the public to access all relevant information from the web and also file their tax returns through the Internet, the official said. |
"Now the dealers will not have to wait for months and years for finalisation of their returns," the official said. |
This would not only stop the harassment of dealers but would also help in efficient tax administration resulting in better revenues, he added. |
"Filing the returns through chartered accountants will not only boost government revenues, but will also help dealers in submitting their tax details on time and in correct manner," he said. |
The correct assessment and submission of excise liabilities would also help in reducing unwanted litigations, he added. |
"With the computerisation and new system of filing returns, the department hopes to boost the revenue collection," the official added. |
