The union rural development ministry has released Rs 24.34 crore to the Tamil Nadu government for rural drinking water and wastelands development.
The amount has been released to Tamil Nadu Water and Sanitation Board, Chennai, towards first installment of funds against the provisional allocation of Rs 48.69 crore for 2003-04 under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme.
States have been requested to delegate powers for management of rural water supply schemes through the Panchayati Raj Institutions as per the Constitution of India.
