The completion of Vishapatnam Port Connectivity Project is likely much ahead of the schedule. Visakhapatnam Port and National Highway Authority of India have jointly formed a special purpose company called 'Visakhapatnam Port Road Company Limited' to take up this Rs 80 crore project.

The government has proposed this about 12-km-long 4-lane road to link the Vizag Port with National Highway-5. NHAI has awarded this road construction work to Vizag-based MVR & Sons, and this company started the construction work on June 17, 2002.

M Venkata Rao, the chairman, MVR &Sons, said, "the scheduled time for the completion of this project is December 16, 2004. But we are committed to complete this work before the schedule. As on date, fifty per cent of the work was finished and we are planning to wrap up this project six months ahead of the scheduled time. If we can achieve it, the company will get five per cent bonus on the total project cost."

NHAI has appointed LEA Associates South Asia Private Limited as a supervision consultant for this project.
