Barry Eichengreen, professor of economics and political science at the University of California, Berkeley, says the rupee could become one of the top five global currencies in the world in 20-30 years. The professor, whose study in 2009 had termed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) one of the least transparent central banks in the world, was in India to deliver the Exim Bank’s commemorative lecture.
