The rupee remained weak and depreciated further by 2 paise against the dollar in early trade today as the US currency gained against other Asian currencies.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee eased by 2 paise to 46.26 a dollar. The rupee had closed lower 3 paise at 46.24/25 a dollar in the previous session.
Forex dealers said besides the dollar gaining against other Asian units and month-end demand from importers for the US currency, weak trend on the stock markets also weighed on the rupee sentiment.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex fell by 98.88 points, or 0.60 per cent to 16,187.44 points, in the opening trade today.
