Extending its gains for the third straight day, the rupee today appreciated by another four paise to 46.44 a dollar in early trade, largely in line with other firming Asian currencies amid rise in the domestic equities market.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee appreciated by four paise to 46.44 a dollar. The rupee had ended 17 paise higher at 46.48/49 in the previous session.
Forex dealers said dollar's losses against other Asian currencies mainly supported the Indian unit.
Further strong opening of the domestic equities market also boosted the rupee sentiment.
The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today surged nearly 175 points in early trade at 16,096.64 points.
