Private insurance companies have approached the finance ministry to seek permission for launching a comprehensive policy to cover risks related with crops, assets and livestock in rural areas.

"We are talking with the finance ministry for a special scheme for Rural India. We will meet Finance Minister P Chidambaram by the month-end to give a presentation on affordable insurance schemes," Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Managing Director Arun Agarwal said.
