Saarc information ministers meet today in Nepal

A meeting of Saarc information ministers which commences here today will focus on a common agenda for information technology development in South Asia.

Union Minister Jaipal Reddy will lead the Indian delegation at the fifth meeting of information ministers of Saarc nations which will also discuss ways and means to enhance new technology for disseminating information about Saarc activities within the member states.

The ministers will discuss airing weekly Saarc news on government radio and broadcasting a television news programme once a month in their own countries.

Senior officials of Saarc countries met here today to finalise the agenda which will be endorsed by the ministers of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Nepal's King Gyanendra will inaugurate the two-day meet at the Birendra International Convention Centre.

Reddy is the highest-ranking Indian official to visit Nepal since the Februray 1 royal takeover.
