For Congress contender Sachin Pilot, a victory from this historical city is not enough as he hopes for a historic win with record margin so that it is etched in people's memory.
"I believe that the people would repose faith in me and give a favourable verdict.... A win is definite, but what I want from the people is that they should make it historic," Pilot told PTI on the sidelines of his campaign here.
"I believe this is important as the more votes I gain, the larger would be the strength imparted and trust reposed on me, and subsequently there will be more responsibility on me for the development of Ajmer," he said.
The young turk of the Congress is locked in the battle with BJP's Kiran Maheswari in the polls on May 7.
Pilot, who has been campaigning in the area along with his wife Sarah, has also appealed to people not to abstain from voting.
"I request them to come out in huge numbers as this is not just the sign of a strong democratic set-up but the candidate who wins gets the real and authentic representation of the region," he reasoned.
Lending some local flavour to his election rallies, Pilot does speak to people in the Rajasthani accent.
"Aap jitna jyada mat doge utni jyada taakat aayegi mujhme... Utni chaudi chhati se Dilli jaunga main (The more you vote for me, the vote I will gain strength... I will go to Delhi with my chest swelled up in pride)," Sachin said, and the audience responded with a loud "Ram Ram Saab" (traditional way of greeting in Rajasthan).
The 31-year-old leader has addressed various gatherings ranging from those of different castes and communities to various labour unions in the area. "Meeting them makes me understand their actual grievances which I promise to solve once elected," he said.
"I have asked the voters in this area to bring back my party to power (in the Centre), as then it would be a wonderful equation for development-- with Congress in the state and Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister at the Centre," Pilot said.
Sachin, banking on the development that he has undertaken at his previous constituency Dausa, said he will focus on the "all-round" development of the historical city, which is a tourism hub of Rajasthan. However, he does not forget to talk about other areas of development.
"Not just tourism, there are hundreds of other areas ranging from higher education to IT services that need development," he said.
