Less than a fifth of the ambitious Sagarmala project has been completed since it was launched three-and-a-half years back, revealed a Right to Information (RTI) query.
When the Union Cabinet approved it on March 25, 2015, it envisaged projects worth Rs 8.7 trillion that would connect 600 ports. The 80-odd projects completed till now are already valued at Rs 140 billion. Another 212 projects worth Rs 2.5 trillion are still under way. The National Perspective Plan of Sagarmala envisions the potential to save around Rs 210-270 billion through coastal shipping of 230-280 million tonnes per annum of key commodities such
