Senior Congress member P Sambasiva Raju was on Monday sworn-in as the pro tem speaker by Andhra Pradesh governor Surjeet Singh Barnala at a simple function held at Raj Bhavan here.

Sambasiva Raju, an eight-time legislator from Vizianagaram district, will administer the oath to the newly elected members of the House on the first day of the first session of new Assembly.

The six-day session will take up governor's address on Tuesday followed by discussion and reply.

This is the second time after TDP was formed that a pro tem speaker has to administer oath to members of the newly constituted house.

Earlier, Sultan Salahauddin Owaisi of Majlis was the pro tem speaker when NTR-led TDP first won the election in 1983.
