Sanjeev Chopra, an IAS officer, has taken over as the managing director (MD) of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation Of India (Nafed) with effect from July 30.
"On July 29, I met Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and requested him to appoint a new MD in Nafed. I am glad that he has accepted my demand and made Sanjeev Chopra, an IAS officer of 1985 batch, as the new MD," Nafed Chairman Bijender Singh said today.
Last month, the board of directors of Nafed had sacked the then managing director, C V Anand Bose, on charges of misuse of funds. Bose had denied all the allegations and said that he was paying the price for his crusade against corrupt officials in the organisation.
The Nafed board had requested the ministry to appoint a new MD and had also asked Additional MD P K Sharma to take charge in the interim.
When contacted, Bose said that he had already written to the Agriculture Ministry ten days back to relieve him from the post as he did not want to continue.
Meanwhile, Bose said he has also been promoted to the rank of secretary.
The sacking of Bose did not go well with Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who described the Nafed board's step as "incorrect" and asked the board to reconsider its decision.
