Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on wednesday had launched Digital Literacy Programme in 126 gram panchayats, one each in every constituency, in the state.

"Through Digital Literacy Programme, we envisage to make every citizen, even the poorest of the poor, to be digitally empowered and use digital technologies for meaningful action in their life," Sonowal said at the function.

"We also want to use technologies to bridge the digital gap and create awareness among people about government schemes and programmes," he added.

He also said that digital literacy would be an engine of growth in the socio-economic, cultural, spiritual spheres and would go a long way in skill development.

Under the programme, 126 gram panchayats, one from each constituency, have been selected for the initial 100 days of the programme, which will be replicated all over the state in future.
