With an aim to target religious destinations across the country, Sarovar Hotels & Resorts, major hotel Management Company in the country, is planning to tie-up with the South Africa-based hospitality company to open chain of properties at religious destinations in India.
Presently, the company manages franchises and markets 42 hotels and resorts in 36 locations in India and overseas, with total 3,300 rooms. These hotels have been launched under five major brands- Sarovar Premiere, Sarovar Portico, Hometel, Park Plaza and Park Inn. The brand covers 3-star to 5-star hotels.
“We are now at the stage of fine-tuning the agreement with the South Africa’s hospitality company. The brand will be jointly owned by us and the African Company. They will build six hotels at various religious destinations as per our specifications. We will also be able to use this brand for other hotels that we take over at religious locations for management,” Anil Madhok, Managing Director, Sarovar Hotels & Resorts, told Business Standard, but avoided to divulge more details.
While talking about current market scenario of hospitality industy in the country, Anil Madhok said, “Last year saw the luxury segment being worst affected. However, corporate travel, with a thrust on cost-cutting, shifted to more economical options in the mid-market hotel segment. In 2010 rationalization in terms of room tariffs and occupancy is likely to continue. Hotels across leisure destinations will now focus on the domestic leisure market to drive-in business. The mid-market segment will remain in demand and would continue to grow.”
The company is affiliated with Carlson Hospitality Worldwide.
