SC calls for talks on Godavari water

The Supreme Court today asked the water resources minister to hold discussions with Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra representatives to resolve the dispute between the two states over sharing of Godavari water, saying he could seek the prime minister's intervention if necessary.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal passed the order on a public interest petition filed by a Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh, Madhu Yaski Goud, alleging that lapse in implementing a 1975 agreement between the two states had resulted in drought in six districts of Andhra Pradesh.
