The much awaited hearing of the Supreme Court of India on the controversial Polavaram project, which was scheduled for today, was deferred by six weeks as the Ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) sought time to file its response to the petition filed by the Orissa government. In its petition filed in the apex court on September 4 this year, the Orissa government had sought scrapping of the environmental clearance granted to the project. The hearing which was fixed for October 4 had to be deferred as there was no representative of the Centre.
