SC issues notices on Nhava Sheva waste oil

 Around 150 containers of waste oil are kept at the port in the garb of lubricating oil. Since the importers become wary after the apex court took up the case, the judges today allowed the authorities to seek the help of Maharashtra police to serve notices on them.

 The ministry of environment had to spent Rs 6.35 lakh to test the contents of the containers only to find that they were hazardous.

 The bench consisting of Justice YK Sabharwal and Justice BN Agrawal also wanted to know what the ministry of environment had done about the handling of 47 hazardous substances, which cannot be exported or imported as per the Basel Convention directives to which India is a party.
