The special reservation for Muslims introduced by the Andhra Pradesh government suffered a blow on Friday when the Supreme Court directed the state government not to admit any more students under the quota system. This order will prevail till next Friday when the court will hear the petitions seeking a stay of the law itself. The state had provided 4% reservation for Muslims in all educational institutions and the process of admission is currently on. It is estimated that out of 20,000 seats in higher educational institutions, 2,000 have already been filled up. The last date for admission is September 30. The bench, headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan, said the admissions made so far will not be disturbed. |
