The Supreme Court today refused to grant extension of time to Uttar Pradesh sugar mills for payment of their balance cane dues to farmers for the current crushing season.

</p><p class='TableClas'>Earlier On May 15, the Supreme Court had asked the sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh to pay sugarcane prices for the 2007-08 season at the rate of Rs 110 per quintal (100 kgs) within three weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </P>
</p><p class='TableClas'>A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat in an interim order had said that the sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh shall pay the rate (Rs 110 a quintal) fixed by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court in within three weeks for 2007-08.</P></p></table>
