Suggesting a "fine tuning" of the guidelines submitted by the Election Commission for monitoring political advertisements on electronic media, the Supreme Court today sought the response of the Union government on the issue within three days.

The Election Commission said it proposed to limit the right to insert advertisement on TV channels and cable networks to the 700-odd registered political parties and all contesting candidates and that all advertisements should be submitted seven days before telecast.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice V N Khare, Justice S B Sinha and Justice S H Kapadia suggested fine tuning of the guidelines and sought responses of the Centre and Gemini TV.
