The total plan outlay for the South Central Railway (SCR) region for this year has been increased by Rs 122.40 crore to Rs 772.90 crore, as compared to Rs 650.50 crore during 2005-06.

Speaking to mediapersons after the Railway Budget was presented on Friday, D N Mathur, general manager, SCR, said, "The Rs 122 crore increase in the plan outlay is in addition to the Rs 186 crore allotted to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited for this region."

Some of the major works to be taken up include doubling and electrification of the Guntakal-Renigunta line, laying a new line between Manoharabad and Kotapally at a cost of Rs 149 crore and development of 114-km line between Obulavaripalle and Krishnapatnam port at a cost of Rs 499 crore.

"We got 22 road-over-bridges sanctioned, of which 20 fall within the state. This a major leap in comparison to the only four sanctioned last year," said Mathur.

To provide better passenger amenities, the SCR plans to bring in a display system for coach numbers at a cost of Rs 1.17 crore, he said.
