South Central Railway (SCR) showed improved performance in gross earnings and traffic volume during April to December, 2013, compared with the same period in the previous year.
Gross originating earnings of SCR during this period stood at Rs 7,691 crore, registering a 6.6 per cent growth compared with Rs 7,217 crore earned during the corresponding period of last fiscal.
Of this, freight earnings accounted for Rs 5320 crore. Passenger earnings grew 24.3 per cent to Rs 1,973 crore from Rs 1,587 crore, according to an SCR press release on Wednesday.

SCR loaded 78.1 million tonnes (mt) of originating freight during the nine-month period. Coal accounted for the largest chunk at 53 per cent (41.3 mt) of the total loading, followed by cement (20.1 mt), foodgrains (5.06 mt) and fertilisers (4.3 mt).
The zone carried 293 million passengers during the period. At present, it carries around 1.08 million passengers on average per day.
