There has been no consistent character for the Shiv Sena, the BJP leader said. To illustrate the point he added: First it championed the cause of Marathi nationalism and later it expanded its concern to include the whole of Hinduism, without really understanding its meaning. They do not have any clearcut goals, objectives and approach to issues, he observed.
The BJP leader expressed disapproval at the militancy potrayed by the statements of various Sena leaders. He cited the claim of responsibility by Sena for the demolition of Babri Masjid as an instance of such verbal militancy and said though the demolition of the structure was a vetillation of public feeling and no organisation had anything to do with it, the Sena needlessly wanted to take credit for the incident.
Govindacharya however saw no danger to the Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra in immediate future as we are getting along well there and problems have never assumed any serious proportion. He further explained that BJP did not go for any alliance with Sena in Uttar Pradesh because the need for it never arised.
and asserted that the Gujarat crisis and chargehseet against party leader L K Advani would have no bearing on the party's poll prospects in that state. He expressed confidence that his party would form the government in UP with a comfortable majority.
