Rajya Sabha MP Arjun Sengupta has decided not to join the convention on inflation being organised by the Samajwadi Party-led UNPA on April 19.

Reacting to a report in Business Standard on April 9, Sengupta wrote back saying, "I am an independent member of the Rajya Sabha (not nominated, as we wrote this morning), and not a member of any party. But I am a Congressman. I would not join any platform that is against the Congress. I am not attending the meeting."

Sengupta, along with former Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan, was invited to speak at the meeting. "Amar Singh is a good friend of mine. He requested me to speak on inflation at a meeting he was organising. He did not mention that it was a political platform," said Sengupta.
