South Eastern Railway (SER) will focus on iron and steel sector to drive up freight earning to partly compensate the loss of cargo after its trifurcation. Moreover, SER will also put greater emphasis on Haldia port in West Bengal to increase its share of cargo.
SER had carried 201.6 million tonne cargo in 2002-3, the last year of its unified existence. The circles retained under SER after division had share of 63.07 million tonne. V N Garg, general manager of SER said the revised target for residual SER has been pegged at 67 million tonne for the current fiscal.
