Sericulture institute, UAS plan joint studies

The Mysore-headquartered Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI) and University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, (UAS) have agreed to jointly undertake collaborative studies in major thrust areas of research particularly on the management of pests and diseases.

This is one among the several collaborative areas of work under an MoU signed between the two at the weekend in Bangalore.

Demonstrations by covering each others research, extension/farm activities/units, participation of beneficiaries in krishi melas, video-conferencing and other extension programmes, and term-based training programme for stakeholders of both CSRTI and UAS at each other’s place are among the major areas of collaboration under the MoU.

 

Exchange of post-graduate research students for exposure on term-based dissertation, research work; exchange of faculties and scientists between CSRTI and UAS for imparting or undergoing required specialised training and conducting research work; recognise and include experts as co-guides or co-investigators for doctoral work and research projects are other vital issues of mutual interest covered by the two institutions in the MoU that will benefit the farmer community as well the academia. Besides, their collaborative effort will also see bringing out of publications based on collaborative research work.

The two institutions engaged in research and study have described the MoU as a milestone in history of both institutions in the light of emerging global challenges like changing market trends, eco-climate and economic situations. These challenges could be tackled more effectively with such joint efforts that will cover teaching, research and extension activities of both the organisations.

The MoU was signed by CSRTI Director S M H Qadri and the UAS Registrar K Narayana Gowda and scientists and officers of both the organisations.

CSRTI is a pioneer research institution in the field of sericulture under the Central Silk Board of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with a large number of products or technologies commercially exploited and over a dozen of them patented in the last five decades.

UAS is one among the top rated agricultural universities in the country that offers that offers degree programmes covering agriculture and veterinary disciplines, including sericulture, besides training.
