After its successful pilot launch in Thiruvananthapuram, the Kerala government-backed 24X7 women-friendly taxi service, She Taxi, is expected to be launched soon in Kochi.

The service, operated exclusively by women, serves women travellers in the city. It was initiated by Gender Park, which functions under the state department of social justice.

Its pre-launch demonstration in Kochi will be held at Oberon Mall on Sunday. Beena Kannan, who runs Seematti Silks, will be part of the function, along with PTM Sunish, CEO of Gender Park.

Apart from ensuring safe journey, it would also encourage entrepreneurship and self-employment among women.

"She Taxi would certainly bring in more women into this sector. We believe that it would eventually bring about a sea change in our traffic culture," said K M Abraham, additional chief secretary, department of social justice.

The stakeholders of the She Taxi project are Maruti Suzuki Ltd, which is supplying the taxis and providing training to women drivers; the Kerala Women's Development Corporation, which will provide financing support for the entrepreneurs, and Technopark-based Rain Concert Technologies.
