Ex –president of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) Manbeer Chaudhary has maintained there could be shortage of 14,000-15,000 hotel rooms in the National Capital Region (NCR) for the upcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG).

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a conference here he added there was still an additional requirement of 15,000-20,000 rooms and with Haryana being able to provide around 7,000 rooms, shortage might creep in.

Blaming the laxity in attitude adopted by the officials, Manbeer Chaudhary said the government should have played a constructive role by offering land on lease basis so that more rooms could be added before the CWG starting October this year.

Meanwhile, announcing the launch of ‘Jewel’s Noor Mahal’ a new five-star luxury hotel in Karnal (Haryana), Chaudhary said there was dearth of five-star hotels in the region.

Excluding Gurgaon in Haryana there are only six five-star hotels in the region which includes Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir.

The ‘Jewel’s Noor Mahal’ is the first five-star hotel from the Jewel group and second after Hotel Jewel’s – four-star property in Karnal.

The 5-star Luxury hotel Jewel’s Noor Mahal which would be inaugurated on June 21 would address the need of corporate as well as leisure travellers.

Spread over eight acres and 350,000 square feet carpet area, the hotel has been built on the heritage concept and boasts of 122 rooms along with seven banquets.
