Sikkim govt approves Rs 17.83 cr for construction of houses

The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government led by Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has approved construction of 450 houses under the Chief Minister's Awas Yojana at an estimated cost of Rs 17.83 crore, official sources said today.     

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at Chamling's residence at Mintokgong on August 30 last, sources said. 

The construction of the houses under the Chief Ministers' Awas Yojana would be completed in this financial year itself and would be evenly distributed in all 32 assembly constituencies of the himalayan state, they said.     

The cabinet also approved a proposal for repair of 150 existing houses per constituency under the Chief Ministers Awas Yogana for which a fund of Rs 6.97 crore has been sanctioned under the house upgradation scheme, sources said, adding the state government has allocated a sum of Rs one crore to the State Welfare department for construction of 25 Bhutia-Lepcha houses at a cost of Rs.3.97 lakhs each.     

 

Besides, an amount of Rs. 74.50 lakh has been sanctioned for construction of a Tribal Community Hall at Tathangchen in Gangtok.
