Singapore is keen to expand its business ties with India, said Ajith Singh, Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore, Chennai.

The airport project in Chennai, a joint venture of the Singapore Airport Consortium with the Tatas and the development project of a part of the airport in Thiruvananthapuram are the initiatives of Singapore in this direction, he said.

Participating in an interactive meet at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce here, Singh said IT-related sectors, construction and infrastructure, and the tourism industry held much potential in terms of the 'exchange value' as far as India was concerned.

India was Singapore's third major trading partner in recent years and the figure had touched $16 billion last year.

The tourist figures too showed a quantum jump at 6,59,000, an increase of 12.9 per cent. There were nearly 2,600 Indian firms operating in Singapore, he said.
