Single Indians are more optimistic about India’s future economic condition than married Indians, points out the Boston Analytics Consumer Sentiment Index (BACSI) data for the month of November, 2008.

The data reveals that the overall consumer sentiment index in India continues to fall as the November index declined 2.8 per cent to 81.8 per cent. However, according to the BACSI, single Indians are more optimistic about their ability to find an alternative means of employment should they lose their job. They also have a more positive perception of the current economic condition.

Single Indians, within the age bracket of 20-25 years, are likely to drive the consumer spending in the next 12 months. Indians falling in this bracket are more likely to purchase durable goods, specifically a two or four wheeler over the next six months, as well as build or purchase a house in the next 12 months, says the survey.

BACSI is derived from a monthly survey of over 8,000 respondents across 15 cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kochi and Chandigarh among others.
