The Central SEZ approval board on Friday decided to give single SEZ status to the entire 247 acre area of the proposed Smart City project at Kochi. A notification in the regard will be issued shortly. The board had earlier given SEZ status to 136 acres of land, but had not given the same to 111 acres.
As the entire site is divided by a river into two, the board had not allowed this. This created hurdles in the implementation of the project as Tecom insisted single SEZ to the site. They argued that the master plan for the project could not be finalised if SEZ status for the entire project is not granted. The state government has given assurance that a bridge would be constructed in order to solve this issue. The central approval board approved this proposal and decided to give single SEZ status to the projects.
