As the states are now facing the challenge to raise the salaries of their employees after the submission of the Sixth Pay Commission report, the CPI(M) today demanded central grants for the states.

"The 19th Party Congress demands that the central government grant at least 50 per cent of the additional funds required for all the state governments, and at least 90 per cent for the North-East states, for consequential wage/salary revision of the state government employees, teachers and others concerned," a resolution said.

It has demanded that the UPA government should not accept proposals to abolish posts and corporatisation of railways and defence establishments.

The Party Congress has also said: "The recommendations on wage/salary rise are grossly discriminatory against the employees vis-à-vis the high-level officres."
