The Excise Department inspected the Whitefield depot of the state-owned Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd (KSBCL) and seized 40 cases of suspected non-paid duty liquor, a senior official said.

Following complaints of irregularities at the depot, the officials inspected the stocks lying there last night, Joint Commissioner, Excise, Ramkrishna said.

"On inspection, it was found there were 40 cases, which we suspect is non-paid duty liquor, that had made its way into the regular stocks", he said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that these cases could have been stealthily mixed with the other regular stocks by the loaders when loading or unloading vehicles, he said.

However, a final report on the matter, is still awaited, he said. KSBCL is a state government undertaking whose core activities include procuring liquor and spirit from manufacturers and suppliers and selling it to wholesalers.
