Small houses in Chhattisgarh get property tax reprieve

Small houses constructed in 500 square feet area would now be left out of the ambit of property tax in Chhattisgarh.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made avowed the tax exemption plan in the civic body elections in November. The decision takes effect from April 1, 2010, Chhattisgarh minister for urban development Rajesh Munat informed in the Legislative Assembly.

The state government had also empowered the authorized architects and building engineers to pass the layout of houses to be constructed within 2000 square feet area. The move is aimed at relieving people from facing hardship in getting the building layout pass from the civic bodies, nat said.

 

The new buildings to be constructed in the limits of municipal corporation will now have rainwater harvesting system. The state government will make it mandatory for installing rainwater harvesting system in the new buildings, Munat said. In case the building owner fails to do it, the municipal corporation will install the system and collect the required fee.

The minister also announced the launch of Shraddhanjali scheme that would provide a minimum sum of Rs 1000 to the people living below poverty line for cremation.
