Solid waste management board soon

A state-level integrated solid waste management board with a mission to promote 'zero-waste' Andhra Pradesh will be constituted under the chairmanship of chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
 
The proposal to set up the board was finalised at a review meeting on the functioning of municipal administration and urban development department convened by the chief minister on Thursday.
 
Reddy also directed the officials to expedite all the pending projects for conversion of municipal waste into energy and finalise the expressions of interest (EOIs) for the 17 clusters to construct the sanitary land fills in a time-bound manner.
 
According to a press release, the chief minister wanted to provide individual toilets to all the below poverty line households under the integrated low-cost sanitation programme through a time-bound action plan.
 
Reddy also directed the officials to prepare a strategic action plan to ensure water supply to every household in every city as per the water supply norms.
 
He said that there should be no areas left out and gradually 24-hour supply of water be provided.
