Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has written to Home Minister Chidambaram on the unauthorised telecast of several religious TV channels in various parts of the country, in clear violation of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995.

"I have written a letter to the home minister and to all the chief ministers. I have urged the states to ensure that the cable regulatory legislation is implemented firmly," Soni told reporters here today.

The minister said she had written to Chidambaram a couple of weeks back and he has assured to look into the issue.

Reacting to reports that certain channels like ARY, Peace TV and QTV among others, which are not authorised to be beamed, airing programmes, Soni said, "I have received complaints that these channels are being shown in many parts of the country. The home minister has said that he will look into the issue."
