South Point, one of the largest schools of the world, plans to expand its presence in West Bengal. |
R S Lodha, co-chairman of M P Birla Foundation and a trustee of South Point Education Society, said, "Every inch of the existing premises has been utilised. Now, the school intends to expand beyond its existing premises." |
Lodha, however, declined to divulge any further details of the proposed expansion. He said although the group has presence in other states, South Point was likely to expand in West Bengal, on the basis of the model being followed in the existing set up. |
South Point, a school having a 80 cottahs of land, has 12,500 students and has featured in the Guiness Book of World Records as the world's largest school. |
While addressing a press conference at the school's golden jubilee celebration on Saturday, Lodha said the school has taken up a series of initiatives to celebrate the occasion. These include release of a school anthem, setting up two auditoriums, renovation of the library and getting it connected through the internet and guiding the students to participate in interactive programmes with 500 underprivileged pupils of six institutes. |
A documentary of the school, named 'My School', would be released on the occasion. |
