This comes amidst reports that Congress, that is yet to firm up its hold in Uttar Pradesh, was cosying up to the Mulayam Singh-led Samajwadi Party.

"We have been invited for the dinner," Samajwadi Party leader Mohan Singh said.

Looking at the political scenario in UP, a tie-up between Congress and SP appears imminent as BSP supremo Mayawati has spurned all friendly overtures of Congress. Also Mayawati, in is clever strategy, is planning to challenge all major political parties while making alliances with smaller caste-based groups and forces.

Showing his inclination towards Congress, recently, Mulayam Singh Yadav had lashed out at BSP leader Mayawati for being "ungrateful" to the UPA government by criticising it.

He alleged that Mayawati had become chief minister for the second time only becuase of the "large-heartedness" of Congress.
