The UPA government will launch a special scheme to build infrastructure in the Naxal-affected areas, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi announced today after the cabinet meeting. States affected with Left-wing extremism will get special infrastructure projects.
Rs 500 crore has been estimated for this project in the eleventh plan period with a provision of Rs 100 crore for 2008-09.
According to Dasmunsi, the new scheme will provide crucial infrastructure requirements that are critical to the policing and security needs in the field but are not adequately provided for in any of the existing schemes. This will be a centrally sponsored scheme.
